Unimarine shipping agency, celebrated 20 years of operations in our country. Unimarine represents Evergreen Line in Uruguay and Paraguay. Evergreen Line is one of the principal owners of the world. Unimarine ensures Uruguayan and Paraguayan trade to the countries of Far and Middle East.
Gustavo Piston, Unimarine director, recalled that in May 1994 the first vessel from this service which arrived at the port of Montevideo had a capacity of 1,100 TEUs. “Today we have a weekly call of a 9000 TEUs vessel. This allows us to have an idea of how important this service has been in relation to internatinationl trade with the East. Specially because in the past these regions had limited access for our cargoes.”
Larger and larger ships determine that one of the main concerns for shipping companies face is how to provide more efficient services. This implies the need to increase productivity to reduce operation time. Ports are moreover required to have an adequate draught and infrastructure ready to serve this huge vessels. “During the last two years the capacity of vessels has been doubled”, explained Pistón.
Unimarine shipping agency was the first agency in Uruguay to receive a Quality certificate ISO9001: 2000. Today Unimarine is certified ISO9001: 2008. In addition to this, on March, Evergreen Line awarded Unimarine the Best Agent Latin America Award, recognizing the company and its contribution to the development of maritime trade.
