The first barge loaded with logs arrived almost a month ago at the Punta Pereira terminal, this milestone marked the beginning of Transfluvial operations, carrying wood to Montes del Plata pulp mill. Up to this moment, STF (Nodus Teyma Forestal) has already unloaded eight barges.
While barges are designed to carry up to 5,000 tons of wood, in the first trip only 3.900 tons were transported. This tonnage has been increasing and the latest barges unloaded this weekend carried about 4,500 tons each.
From now on 20 monthly trips with wood are expected to be unloaded while cellulose is loaded in ocean vessels with destination its global markets. When port facilities are fully operative, on early 2015, a barge every 12 hours is expected to be unloaded, completing about 50 river discharge operations each month.
