Overseas experts dictated workshop on offshore activities in deep waters
Experts from the United States, Chile, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay met at the Regency hotel to analyze in depth the development of deepwater offshore activities. The engineering exploration, development and production, as well as the legal and regulatory framework, safety measures and environmental care, the risks, logistic challenges and services associated with the activity were discussed at a workshop organized by Schandy and supported by Brasco Offshore Logistics.
The workshop was organized to enhance the knowledge of the oil industry due to their growing interest in exploring the Uruguayan continental platform. The experts lectured on various aspects and organised discussion which generated fruitful exchanges amongst the participants.
The complexity of offshore exploration in Uruguay is due in part to the fact that its potential lies in deep and ultra-deep water reaching the surface only at 1,500 meters under the sea.
Presentations were conducted in Spanish and Portuguese, and extended for two fruitful days that allowed attendees to improve their understanding of offshore exploration without neglecting any aspect, including the use of supporting ships and tugs, legal aspects to be considered, accident prevention, contingency maps and how to dispose of waste without neglecting the planet.
